Running and sweating go together

Product Information

No, sweating is not disgusting. It’s a vital protective reaction of the organism against overheating. Our skin consists of two to four million of what are called eccrine sweat glands, which distribute water all over the body, when needed. When we exert ourselves physically, our body produces sweat. The resulting evaporation is the body’s way of cooling off.

Due to the compensation, well-trained athletes sweat more than amateurs. Regular, ambitious training improves our physical fitness, because of our body adapting to the training stimuli and the increase in performance. This also affects the sweat production and explains why well-trained runners are able to sweat out up to two liters of water after just one hour of working out. This fluid loss must always be compensated! During marathon races, the organisers set up supply stations with water and electrolyte drinks on the side of the track, which should unquestionably be used by the runners. To help compensate the loss of liquid during endurance training it can also be convenient to wear a special belt to store bottles of water.

Besides the physical fitness, genetic factors, clothing and the body weight play an important role in sweat production. Runners should be careful to use the right clothing: Breathable functional fabrics are highly recommended. Cotton, for example, is totally inappropriate as it soaks up the sweat instead of transporting it to the outside of the garment. Furthermore, wet clothes have to be changed immediately after exercising, to avoid hypothermia and other health problems.
